Report ID: 554692997 Metadata issues with safari connector 5.0.21

Hi Zotero.

We have a problem with the zoteroicon on different pages such as imdb.com and oria.no (Metadata is not found and its saved to Zotero as web page). In the advanced settings we have updated status and reauthorised the connector with safari and updated and reset translator. Still no metadata found. What to do?

During the next weeks we will teach Zotero to our 200 new students, so we hope for a quick solve:)

Could you submit a Debug ID from Safari for refreshing an IMDb page?
  • Hi again
    1.
I just realised that the IMDB actually has the correct icon and is saving metadata after we updated and reset translator , but the webpage Oria.no (norwegian library catalogue) still fails to collect metadata about the books into Zotero (it just saves as a webpage and not a book).

2.Another thing that is missing is the option to right click and save to Zotero. Is that option supposed to be gone?

This is the debug report when trying to save a book from Oria.no into Zotero: D1484566890

3.Another strange thing: The link below is to the library catalogue that doesn't have the proper Zotero icon, but when i copy and paste and open it in a new tab the icon changes to the correct book icon in the new tab.....

Does this make any sense to you?

    This is the webpage: https://bibsys-almaprimo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/primo_library/libweb/action/display.do?tabs=detailsTab&ct=display&fn=search&doc=BIBSYS_ILS71472883280002201&indx=1&recIds=BIBSYS_ILS71472883280002201&recIdxs=0&elementId=0&renderMode=poppedOut&displayMode=full&frbrVersion=&frbrSourceidDisplay=BIBSYS_ILS&frbrIssnDisplay=&dscnt=0&frbrRecordsSource=Primo+Local&mode=Basic&vid=BIBSYS&lastPag=&rfnGrp=frbr&tab=default_tab&frbrJtitleDisplay=&dstmp=1505391121444&frbg=207208770&lastPagIndx=1&frbrSrt=date&frbrEissnDisplay=&scp.scps=scope:(BIBSYS_ILS),scope:(SC_OPEN_ACCESS),scope:("BIBSYS"),primo_central_multiple_fe&fctV=207208770&cs=frb&srt=rank&fctN=facet_frbrgroupid&dum=true&vl(freeText0)=panorama%20vg1&gathStatIcon=true

  • Translator folk will need to look into this. Book type is displayed, but I get a Journal Article for at least the first entry that is listed when searching for "test".
Another thing that is missing is the option to right click and save to Zotero. Is that option supposed to be gone?
There were never any other options in the right-click menu for Safari Zotero Connector. You can find more options by long-pressing the Zotero icon in Safari.
Another strange thing: The link below is to the library catalogue that doesn't have the proper Zotero icon, but when i copy and paste and open it in a new tab the icon changes to the correct book icon in the new tab.....
I'm not entirely sure what you are describing here. Do you mean that when you navigate to a book entry from the test results you don't get the correct Zotero icon, but when you open it in a new tab you get the icon? This seems to work fine for me.
  • Translator folk will need to look into this. Book type is displayed, but I get a Journal Article for at least the first entry that is listed when searching for "test".
That's what I'm getting, but that's just because Primo doesn't let us detect the item type pre-import so we always display a book. Article is correct for that item, so that'd be working as it should. But that's not what I understand Anne is getting, right? You get the greyed-out webpage item?
  • (About the right-click: on a random website there was earlier always the possibility to right click and save the webpage to Zotero, but that is not possible on my mac now.
The only right-clicking Zotero option is preferences and not "save as" as earlier.
Any way, thats not a big problem, I just wanted to mention it in case it was relevant for the metadata icon trouble.

Yes, on the original webpage I dont get the correct book Zotero icon, but when I copy and paste the url in to a new tab the book Zotero icon is available.

    Thanks again:)
  • Right. So once again, can you submit a Debug ID from the safari connector (instructions in the link above) for navigating to the page where you don't get the correct icon? I.e. start debug logging when you have search results open, click on the link, wait for the page to load and submit the debug log.
  • (And the right-click is indeed gone, but you get the same functionality by just clicking on the grey "Save to Zotero" icon).
  • I hope I got this right. This is the search for the book and then the load of the page that were supposed to have the book icon but instead has the normal webpage icon:
    D557759610

(and once again, if i copy and paste the url to a new tab the icon shows up correct as a book)
  • That's a Debug ID from Zotero, not from the Zotero Connector.
  • Sorry! Obviously not on top of things:)
    I hope this is correct?
    The Debug ID is D200951265.
  • That appears to be using the Primo translator correctly. What does it say when you hover over the save icon after the page is fully loaded?
  • It says "save to Zotero (embedded metadata)

(when i copy and paste url to a new tab the book icon appears and it says "save to zotero primo). The same thing happend on one of our students Mac)
  • Do you need any more information from me or is it up to the translator people?
We still have to copy and paste urls in to new tabs to get the correct Zotero icon.

    Best regards
    Anne Brit
  • Are you still seeing this in version 5.0.23 of the Connector? If so, could we see another Debug ID for loading the page (and not getting the Primo translator) with that?
  • There was an update available for the connector so I upgraded from 5.0.21 (I think it was) to 5.0.24 on my mac. After that the connector wasnt visible in the url at all. I tried to reinstall both Zotero and the connector without getting any further. Maybe the software on my mac is to old. I will start by letting the computer guys upgrade everything and take it from there:)
  • The problem was fixed after upgrading to High Sierra and 5.0.24 :)
