Synching Issues--Basic

Hello all. I'm new to the Beta and am fairly computer illiterate. I'm trying to set up synching between my desktop, laptop, and the Zotero server (I presume). I've read the document on synching and I'm not sure from that document which URL I'm supposed to type in in the preferences section of Zotero in order to enable synching. The program keeps asking me to input a URL, so leaving that field blank doesn't seem like an option.

I have a MobileMe account with Apple, and I tried inputting the address for that into the field, but it said that me.com was not recognized as a server.

Can anyone enlighten me here? Thanks in advance for the help!
  • The URL is only to keep your attachments (snapshots and PDFs) synchronized and does not use Zotero's server. Your database (containing bibliographic metadata and notes) is synced separately to Zotero's server.

    If you do want to keep your attachments synced, you will need a WebDAV account. MobileMe does offer WebDAV, but it may be better to refer to them about what URL/user/pass to use to be able to use their account (this is not a Zotero-specific question).

    It might be that https://idisk.me.com/your-mm-name would work, but I don't use MM, so don't know.
  • I' m using https://idisk.me.com/[username]/Documents (the obligatory /zotero/ coming up the rear) and it works for me.

    I have seen claims the /zotero/ folder is supposed to be created automatically, but that did not happen in my case. I'd be interested to know if that happens for you.
