Bug: Import fails and importing dialog box doesn't disappear

I had 2 problems, with error ID 1240826426.

First, I tried to import a Google bibtex entry from my clipboard, which failed.

Second, after failure the Importing... dialog boxes did not go away. In fact, they did not disappear even when closing Zotero and they are permanently on top of all other windows.

This is on Ubuntu 17.04
  • If you don't mind, could you post the BibTeX entry here? (You can also email it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.)
In fact, they did not disappear even when closing Zotero and they are permanently on top of all other windows.
I'm guessing the 'zotero' process was still open in some stuck state, even though the main window had closed.
  • Sure

You are correct re: the Zotero process. Once I killed the process the dialog boxed disappeared.
  • That imports fine for me. Can you reproduce this?
  • Hi, I have more or less the same bug, trying to import a reference from Google Scholar. In the former version of Zotero embedded in firefox, I did it selecting "cite" in G scholar and then "End note". This doesn't work anymore and all I get is a running window "Importing", without result. Is here now another way to import a reference?
    Thanks in advance. Michel-Jean
  • Is there now another way to import...
  • Just reproduced it. The error message I get is:

An error occurred while trying to import the selected file. Please ensure that the file is valid and try again.

And the debug output is the following (I truncated bits that seemed less important to make it fit here):

[JavaScript Error: "WebSocket connection closed: 1006 "]

  • It looks like maybe it's related to Better Bibtex? It says that it's disabled in the Add On manager and I tried to remove it and got the following:

  • Yes, it's from the BBT translators that are still installed. Reset your translators from the Advanced → Files and Folders pane of the Zotero preferences.
  • Yep, that was it. Thanks!
