clarifications about sync

Hi,

I'm just starting to work with Zotero and I need some clarifications about how version 1.5 works.
As I understand it, its not possible (yet, according to the development roadmap: http://www.zotero.org/support/development_roadmap) to affect users roles (admin, visitor,...).
If it's really the case, is there a solution to affect read-only function to particular users? For example in the case of php based WebDAV server:
http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/4736/php-based-webdav-server-can-be-used-with-any-eg-free-hosting-plans-and-via-standard-ports/#Comment_26611

In the case of a univerity library that gives access to its references catalogue, what happens if one student delete a reference (if he can)?

Would it be possible to update the development roadmap or to give us some news about the coming version(s) and schedule?

Thanks.
Pierre
  • You are correct that group functionality has not yet been released.
If it's really the case, is there a solution to affect read-only function to particular users?
Wait for group functionality or publish your library manually (an HTML export will have COinS, to allow others to download it; or you can push the references to some third party site that Zotero can parse).
For example in the case of php based WebDAV server:
It isn't clear to me what you mean here. You can't get by excluding people from your WebDAV server: they'd still be able to delete metadata on the references from the zotero sync server. (I don't know what happens if you try to sync and your WebDAV login has read-only permissions, but you can't get what you want even if that one-way sync worked).
In the case of a univerity library that gives access to its references catalogue, what happens if one student delete a reference (if he can)?
If it is an institution as large as a University library, I don't think that sharing a single zotero account is the ideal solution. Have some way of pulling up selected references from your ipac. If your ipac isn't recognized by zotero, submit a request & use a third-party server or a web-page with COinS in the interim.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your answer.
So can we say that for the moment Zotero is rather made for a single person who wants to access his library on several computers. And the next version(s) will allow a group to share library(ies) with different roles?

Does anyone knows the last news on the development road because the one published on the website is obsolete?

    Thanks.
    Pierre
