Word Plug in not reading italic tags

Hi, I've been trying to import some bibliographic references into Mac OSX Word. When I use the Zotero plug in to import bibliographic references into Word as endnotes, I end up with the italic tags [\i ]text[\i0] instead of the interim text simply being in italics. Is this a font or encoding issue? I've tried changing default faults in word but something isn't clicking here. I realized this might be a Word issue but thought I might get a quicker answer here. Thanks for your help.

Almost 10 years later, and I am having this exact same problem.
  • Try <i> and </i>
  • Yes, that is the trick. When importing from another reference software, italics are not necessarily encoded properly, so it becomes necessary to edit every imported reference individually.
  • Maybe you can try to export in some "plain text" format (RIS, bib etc.) and edit codes for italicization in some text processor. But I did not test it, so maybe it is a wrong suggestion.
  • @skberke What exactly are you trying to do and is the problem you are encountering? There is no real universal system for storing rich text markup (italics, etc.) in bibliographic data, so moving from one software to another often requires some manual editing, but there may be some ways to make it faster on your end. Similarly, most metadata databases don't store this information, so you will have to add it manually at import time.

Are you trying to italicize individual words within a title (e.g., for species names) or the entire field?
