Dear,

I have installed Zotero on my laptop, both the standalone version and via Firefox. I installed the connector for Chrome as well (since this is my preferred browser and works with the standalone version).

I updated all versions or downloaded the latest version but I'm experiencing problems while trying to add a citation to a new and existing word document.

While trying to add a citation, I get the following message: "Zotero could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate extension is installed and try again."

Could anybody please help me out? I've been trying to fix it for over an hour now..

Kind regards,

Daniel

What version of Zotero did you install? The current version (5.0) is only Standalone not for Firefox.
What word processor do you use?

In the standalone version is selected the 'check for updates' button and it is now fully updated. So that should mean it is the 5.0 version.

In terms of the word processor, I suppose you mean the version? This is professional plus 2010.

I'm sorry but I can't find the solution. It just indicates that the processor is included in the standalone while I'm still getting the error.. How can I see whether the latest and correct version is installed regarding my standalone version?

Perhaps I should add that when going to Standalone -> preferences -> Cite. It says: Use Classic Add Citation Dialog. The box is ticked

If you open MS Word, do you see Zotero toolbar?
Do you use Microsoft Word for Windows or for Mac?
Did you reinstall the Word add-on from Zotero Standalone?
  • Everytime I start MS Word I need to re-select the toolbar, it is not there instantly. What I did is open the developer tab, then go to Add-ins and enable Zotero.dotm from the standalone file (as instructed somewhere online). After this, the ribbon/toolbar appears and thats basically where it stops. I run MS word for Windows.
  • Once you get the Zotero ribbon tab to appear, what happens when you click the Add/Edit Citation button? Also, please check your Word macro security settings. What is it set to?
  • For some reason it started working. I don't exactly know why and how but it does! Could be because I downloaded the Firefox version but I'm still using the Standalone and have to add the toolbar/ribbon myself everytime I start an existing or new word document. Regardless, thank you for your help!
