Zotero 5 not working properly

I have installed Zotero 5 and gone through the online help but can't manage to fix the problem...
1) The Zotero icon is not showing up in the Firefox bar so can only add items but not access my library without logging on through Zotero webpage
2) Cannot add citations through Word for Mac v15.36
Hope someone can help!

    add 1) Have you installed Zotero Connector? (see your addons list)

    Have you installed the Zotero Client (it's a separate program on your Mac)?

    I may not have done this properly and so have now installed and opened to have library available on my desktop. This has now resolved problems with Word for mac but still don't see Z icon in bar on Firefox.

    Try to reinstall the addon for Firefox.

    Thanks have already tried this... I can see a red Z occassionally - like when looking at Zotero addon preferences but then goes back to reference icon without the Z icon next to it, on a normal webpage.

    It is normal, a different type of web page content has the different type of icon in Zotero connector.

    yes I understand this but there is no Z icon next to this so I can access my online Library without going through the Zotero webpage and logging in this way. In the old system I could do this by simply clicking on the Z icon next to the reference icon. has this been changed/omitted in v 5?

    To work with your library you should have the Zotero application open on your Mac and switch to it, when you need to manage it. The online library is supplementary, but not the primary way to manage it - the Zotero app is.

    The is no button in your browser to switch to your Library anymore. This is a technical limitation out of our control. You can read more about why this change was necessary in our blog.
