Adding citation in word only slow for every second item?

Some users already have complained about the slow speed of adding citations in large word documents. I have the same problem: I have a 200 page document in Word 2016 and zotero is slow. But only for every second item!
Add citation 1st time: 100s
Add citation 2nd time: 3s
Add citation 3rd time: 100s
Add citation 4th time: 3s
...

Is there a bug in the algorithm that only slows down every second item?

    Which version of Zotero and has this been the case for a long time?

    Generally this should be slow for .. every insertion if you have a lot of them in this document, so the 3s is actually an outlier here. We are preparing a way to speed up insertion in some not-too distant future.

    (There may be some OS caching involved in speeding this up every other insertion that Zotero is not in control of, but I am not aware of anyone else reporting something like this)
  • I do not know how long this is, I just recently realized that sometimes its faster... I have about 600 footnotes.

    I am using zotero standalone 4.0.29.10

    For the time being switching to an author-date based citation style (e.g. American Psychological Association 6th edition) may speed up your inserts and a more convenient solution will come in the future.
  • Switching to Annual Reviews Author-Date will be slightly faster than APA, as it doesn’t change formatting based on first versus subsequent citations.
  • This will be a welcome improvement. Does not affect me much, but one less thing to worry about when promoting Zotero :)
    @adomasven 10 minutes to 2 seconds! :)
