Installation questions ubuntu linux x86
I'm trying to install Zotero 5.0 from the .tar.gz in Ubuntu 16.04. I can't find any of the expected installation instructions (e.g. readme, install.txt, /help) in the tarball. Is there any guidance for installation?

adamsmiththere's no installation needed -- you just unpack and run. Will work anywhere, but I'd recommend putting it somewhere hidden by default with non-root access. I think I have mine in ~/.local/bin or so

JaredTThanks
-
emilianoeheynsI've made an adaptation of the qnotero installer at https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex/blob/z5/zotero5_installer.sh

zuphilip@adamsmith Maybe we should add another sentence the quick start guide https://www.zotero.org/support/quick_start_guide#how_do_i_install_it, which was already updated for 5.0?
-
emilianoeheynsThat's all the script does, really: guesses a sensible default for version and CPU architecture, download, unpack and set up the launcher icon.
-
adamsmith@zuphilip you mean specifying reasonable location in the linux instructions? I honestly also find the "Desktop" file part of the instructions a bit hard to follow.

dstillmanI updated it a little. Basically, there's already an Ubuntu desktop file bundled in the tarball, but desktop files require absolute paths for icons, so the set_launcher_icon script will update it to include the path to the current location of that directory so that the icon works.
