Zotero crash on quick search (Report ID: 383042384)

Zotero recently started to crash while I am typing in the quick search bar. The recommended browser restart is needed to get it to work again.

I disabled the BetterBibLatex auto-exports and all other Firefox extension, which did not help.
  • Assuming you've checked your database integrity from the Advanced → Files and Folders pane of the Zotero preferences, I'm afraid the only thing we can suggest is to upgrade to Zotero 5.0, now available (though BBT doesn't work for it yet).
  • Out of curiousity, I actually tried Zotero 5 after seeing the forum announcement. The problem no longer shows up there, which is good enough for the upcoming paper deadline ;-)

Good luck with the new version! The deprecation explanation in the blog totally makes sense ...

Note: BetterBibLatex still injects export styles and some other things in the Zotero 5 standalone app, while not being shown as installed or available extension. This might confuse some users. But maybe this belongs into another thread.

  • BBT should absolutely not be installed in 5.0 right now. Usually an uninstall would remove the BBT translators too, but even that doesn't work. Their presence should do no harm, but they must currently be removed by hand if you find them annoying. I think a translator reset will do that, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
  • Is there a timeframe on the post-5.0 electron port BTW?
  • Acknowledged. "Reset translators" removes the non-working entries from the export style list.
