it doesn't look like the correct formatting. lol. I have fixed some issues (ref. in text appearing as [1] instead of superscript 1, but now with multiple references I see something like 2-7 where the "-" isn't superscripted. Can't figure it out!

that is much better. 2 other things: how would I make the references go like this:

1. (a) reference
(b) reference

and also take away the bold on the volume number?

You can't do a) b) within numerical references, sorry.
