Persistent sync failure: REPORT 1762107695

This has been happening for days now, from both stand-alone and the firefox add-on.
The sync reports on needing to upload files to several groups and my own library. A long time later (say, almost an hour) , it would be hanging around 82% or 94% or whatever. Only very few of the files would be left to upload. On restarting, it starts syncing again the entire batch, so even incremental progress is not being made.

I'd appreciate any help.

    S3 returned 0
You're getting lots of timeouts from Amazon S3, suggesting that security software or a proxy on your network is interfering with Zotero's file syncing. Start by checking the certificate info of https://s3.amazonaws.com/zoterofilestorage/test — it should be verified by DigiCert.
  • Hi,

Thanks for your answer. Took me a while to get to checking this.

The zotero domain certificate (e.g., for Zotero) is indeed signed by DigiCert.
Home machine is consistently refusing to do this (though it synced fine before).
Laptop is not syncing while on the home network, but syncing fine from my
    univ office.

This suggests the problem is on the home network. If it weren't for the fact that it used to work (and also that there does not seem to be anything else that is effected), I'd blame the router. Are there any specific ports or dmz settings I should set up?

Is there a way to directly test the s3 connection, to absolutely identify access to it
    as the culprit?

    Thanks
  • I use firefox. I thought it might be an add-on that is causing this, but then it would have happened everywhere -- my firefox browsers are all synced. So that's not it.

  • retrying to sync -- no go. Shows no progress on actual file syncing 0/xxx transmitted, etc.

  • Removed zotero stand-alone, and the add-on. Restarted firefox.
    Re-installed zotero stand-alone. Tried syncing:

"Too many queued requests. Try again in 5 minutes".

    At least that's new :-)

  • New Report: 646184850
  • It's reverting back to the old behavior. New report log below. New report # is:

    348038279

Downloads: None. Uploads to several groups -- 0/xxx files.
Interestingly enough, if I create a new (empty) collection, it does appear in other machines. But no files.

    as the culprit?
I'm not sure what you mean by this. The URL to test for this — from the home network — would be https://s3.amazonaws.com/zoterofilestorage/test, not a Zotero one. (The path part with 'zoterofilestorage' isn't relevant — only the domain is — but without it there's a redirect to another domain.) But the Zotero domain would be verified by GeoTrust, not DigiCert, so I assume you're referring to the S3 site?

In any case, if the S3 certificate is from DigiCert, then this is something else on your machine, likely security software or system proxy settings.
  • Hi, and thanks.

Yes, I was referring to the s3 certificate. The site shows "OK", and the certificate is digicert.

It cannot be security software or proxy: same machine on different network works fine.
Are there any specific router settings I should watch for?

  • No, they're just normal HTTPS requests. You're not using Tor or something like that that Amazon might block?
Is there a way to directly test the s3 connection, to absolutely identify access to it as the culprit?
If you have an Amazon account, you can create a test S3 bucket in AWS and use an S3 client to try to upload to it (or maybe even try the console, which probably uses the AWS JS SDK).
