author wrong when importing with embedded Metadata from pubmed

Hi,
just got back to work after a 3 month break. I usally import abstract and metadata throught the embedded Metadata Funktion to citate in my text, if my university doesn't support the full text article.
However today when I tried to use the function zotero gets the author wrong.
For example with an article with mutiple authors I get
First name: al
Last name: Lundvall et,
and just that all the time no other authors in the info.
zotero and firefox are updated.

I'll be very gratefull for all help and ideas
  • we'd want a specfic URL for the problem, but also -- do you actually mean "Embedded Metadata" or are you using this as a catchall for pressing the Add to Zotero button?
  • yes i meant the "Save with "Embedded Metadata"" Button.
Because you asked for a URl I just found out that when I go to pubmed direkt,
    for example to
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17010866
I find the option: save in Zotero with "PubMed"
which gives me just what I want.
If I visit pubmed over the server of my university, that option is not available.
So theres kind of a solution, thanks for the hint.
On the other hand when trying to save it with "Embedded Metadata" its the same situation with the url above as mentionend in my first post

PubMed never truncates the author list. A PubMed author list can contain more than 100 authors. If you are getting et al then 1) this is a very new (seconds old) publisher-made addition to the database and it was incorrectly added exactly that way to the PreMedline database by the publisher; or 2) you were getting your PubMed data from some other source (EBSCO, OVID, etc.) and not directly via the URL you provided.

You should provide a URL that you use when you have the curious author name problem. Only then can someone help you.

For a time, one of the local university library's bib database listings had the PubMed link not go directly to the PubMed site but to the EBSCO version of PubMed. Even then, this wouldn't result in a truncated author list. Something may have gone greatly awry with your local library and it would to alert them of the problem. Please provide the URL of the record with the failed author list.

If your library's link to PubMed takes you to the database on some other subscription-provider's system, I recommend bookmarking the direct link to the NCBI/NLM server. When importing to Zotero, just click on the icon and import the records that way (using the Zotero PubMed translator). Don't worry about embedded metadata. The Zotero PubMed translator does the work quite well.
  • Thanks for the your quick help.
The problem appears when using the universities server and link to enter the database.
It all works out well when using the direkt url and the ZoteroPubMed translator as you mentioned.
    Problem solved I guess.
  • @schmuelm -- could we still get a URL as you see it when accessing this through your university?
  • yes and no,
using it you will be redirected to the log-in page of the university-server. Or does the url itself say anything?
  • Yes, I am after the URL itself
