Nothing happens when trying to save webpage using chrome connector

Hello,

My zotero standalone and the zotero chrome connector worked fine up until Friday when suddenly nothing happened when I clicked the zotero connnector icon in chrome (no reference shows up in Zotero standalone and no message appears in chrome). I have closed both applications and restarted the computer and disabled and re-enabled the connector but it still doesn't work.

In 'Options' for the connector it says that Zotero is currently available.

I have OSX 10.8.5, zotero standalone version 4.0.29.15 and Chrome version 49.0.2623.112.

Any help is very much appreciated
  • The chrome connector has been updated and requires a current version of Chrome (currently 58). We will not be supporting outdated versions of Chrome, and there are other good reasons to upgrade, including security vulnerability updates.
  • Ok, I'll have to update then.

Thank you for your prompt answer!

For anyone else who may not be able to update your operative system, which may be required to get the current version of Chrome:

I found this workaround for installing an old version - though still newer to the one I had that wasn't compatible with the Zotero connector anymore which was the last Chrome version supporting OS X 10.8.5 - of Chrome: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/237271/is-there-a-google-chrome-version-50-supporting-mac-os-10-8-5

I installed chrome version 50.0.2661.94 which at the moment still seem to work with the Zotero Chrome connector.

This Chrome version I found here: http://google-chrome.en.uptodown.com/mac/old (though I don't know anything about the safety of downloading from this site)
  • Oh, I didn't realize your OSX was that old. We'll be discontinuing Zotero 4.0 soon and the minimum OS for Zotero 5.0 is MacOS 10.10. Something to keep in mind.
  • Thank you for letting me know. Do you know how long before it will be discontinued?

What Mac do you have? As far as I know 10.8 through 10.11 run on the same machines, and the upgrades are free.

10.8 hasn't received security updates since 2015 and isn't safe to use.
  • I have a Macbook Pro from 2010. The thing with updating is that I have a program installed that I really need but which was quite difficult to install, hence my previous unwillingness to upgrade. But yes, I should really upgrade the OS.
