Upgrade StorageChrome Extension: Only showing Zotero symbol - not allowing sources to be added

I've been using Zotero for a year or so with no problems. But last week, instead of a page, or book symbol etc when trying to add sources to Zotero (which is logged in on computer and online) I am only getting the grey hexagon with the red Zotero 'Z'. I have tried restarting computer. Deleted Zotero extension and reloaded it, to no avail. Any known fixes out there for this?

I am using Zotero on a university computer system, which refuses to allow us to have Chrome updates (a check shows it's probably up to 2014), is this possibly creating the issue? Talking to others in my office who are using Zotero on Chrome, non have had this issue before.
which version of Chrome do you have? It's certainly possible that an old version (and 2014 would be very old for Chrome) would break. You should be able to see your version on chrome://help
