wierd syncing error

Hello fellow users,
I have a problem with syncing - I'm having my work computer repaired and so I started to work in the meantime on an older computer, where I also have zotero, but I don't work with it on it often. I opened zotero standalone and I was surprised that the collection was approx. 6 months old, i.e. way less documents and notes etc., in the meantime it synced, so I thought my collection will be updated, but it was not, so I checked the collection online and it is the same 6 months old collection I have on this provisional computer - I am afraid I lost all my work from the last 6 months - how can I recover the files?

    Dobrý den,
    přístup k němu mám - ovšem dochází na něm k přeinstalování operačního systému. Je to problém? Já si samozřejmě udělal zálohu, ale v bláhové víře, že všechny věci k zoteru jsou online, jsem si Zotero samotné nezálohoval...
    Neexistuje třeba v online zotero účtu nějaká možnost vrátit se zpět o jednu až n synchronizací zpět?

    Pochybuji o tom, že bude uložen tak dlouhý žurnál.

    V datovém adresáři Zotero jsou soubory zotero.sqlite a zotero.sqlite.bak. Pokud by se je podařilo zazálohovat, než ten disk smažou, tak by to bylo nejjednodušší.

    používáte zotero pro firefox nebo standalone? pokud pro firefox, tak je ještě šance, že osvícený ajťák Vám přenese Váš profil.

    Assuming you weren't syncing to a different account, your last upload was from last November. It's possible you disabled auto-sync or were getting a sync error (indicated by an error icon to the left of the sync icon, but you might not have noticed). So you'd have to restore from a local backup of your Zotero data directory, if you have one.

    Používám standalone, bohužel.

    Jinak jsem měl zato, že zotero vždycky aktualizuje (a mám to tak i v nastavení), podle nejaktuálnější verze, tak je mi divné, že se stalo toto...

    Nemusí to být bohužel. Záleží, kde jste měl datový adresář, pokud nebude proveden formát disku, tak je pořád šance.

    dstillman: I was getting errors from time to time, as I am travelling lot and I had some issues with wifi connection. But I assumed (and perhaps wrongly), that it is alright once I connect to the internet... Thanks.

    LiborA: díky moc za rady, už na tom děláme, snad to půjde.

    I doubt the connection was the issue — most likely you just had some persistent sync issue that needed to be resolved (e.g., conflict resolution). We're going to try to make it clearer in future versions when Zotero hasn't synced for a while.

    Conflict resolution means a conflict between two different updates? Because I have not worked with Zotero from any other computer since I bought the one in question (and which dates back to November...).

    That's just an example — there are various things that can cause sync errors. (Another one would be a field that was too long.) If you had auto-sync enabled and you were syncing with this account, then you had an unresolved sync error of some sort.

    But then again, it should possible to dig it up from the hard drive, right?

    If you have the old data directory, sure.

    I've got zotero.sqlite a zotero.sqlite.bak retrieved, but when I open these files in Zotero, it is only the old content from November... Is there any chance the data are in any other file?

    Doufám, že je máte ještě někde zazálohované a použil jste jejich kopii.

    Ano, kopii jsem použil. Jsem ve spojení s člověkem, který má u sebe můj počítač a předělával mi mj. ten operační systém. Je možné, že ta data jsou v jiném souboru v adresáři Zotera?

    ne, je to v nich. Nejprve to bude chtit vypnout synchronizaci a az pote zkusit otevrit v Zoteru. Technické detaily ale rozhodne umí lépe adamsmith. jste si jist, že máte ty správne soubory sqlite?

    Vypnul jsem synchornizaci a zkusil znovu otevřít, ale stále to jsou jen ty staré věci... Jak předtím poznamenával dstillman, patrně nedocházelo vůbec k synchronizaci - neexistuje možnost, že by nesynchronizované věci byly ukládány jinam?

    sqlite je databázový soubor kam Zotero ukládá vše. Jsou ale možné 2 věci:
    1. neotvíráte tu přinesenou databázi a stále ten "synchronizovaný" soubor (pochybuji ale o tom, protože mi nepřipadáte jako člověk, který vůbec netuší jak počítače fungují)
    2. měl jste ve starém počítači Zotero data ve dvou rozdílných adresářích a dostal jste ten nepravý soubor.

    The Zotero data directory page has info on the files to look for, where they might be, etc. File timestamps — including dates of the folders within 'storage' — should give you an idea of whether you're looking at an up-to-date directory.

    Disabling synchronization doesn't matter — Zotero won't overwrite a newer database with your old data.
