Error staring Zotero for Firefox, and Word plugin

I use Firefox 52.0, I have updated Zotero for Firefox (but can´t find the version, since I can´t open ). The Word plugin is Zotero Word for windows plugin 3.5.6.

*When I go to Zotero add in (In firefox, I get the alert pop up: "There was an error starting Zotero.") (Also, in Word, when I try select a style in Zotero, there is an alert saying “The style you have selected does not seem to be vaid…”)

What I did so far:

1. Restart Computer -> alert pops up: "There was an error starting Zotero."
2. Close Firefox and delete extensions.ini and extensions.json (there were no other extensions.* files).
3. Start Firefox -> allow all add-ons to reinstall -> restart Firefox.
4. Go to "Tools" select "Web Developer" -> "Browser Console
Here are the information found under “JS” that begin with “>Chrome://zotero:
[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80630002 (NS_ERROR_STORAGE_IOERR) [mozIStorageService.openDatabase]" nsresult: "0x80630002 (NS_ERROR_STORAGE_IOERR)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/db.js :: Zotero.DBConnection.prototype._getDBConnection :: line 1119" data: no]

I have also updated the word plugin.
  • STORAGE_IOERROR is usually due to having your Zotero data directory on a network share or in a server-mirrored location on your hard drive. It can also be caused by security software on your system. Are either of those the case for you?
  • Yes, this was it, thank you!

    Today I work form home (without connection to the server), so I have to wait until I have plugged in the computer to the server, before a could try to fix it.

    One thing I don´t really understand: when I log in to my library at o https://www.zotero.org , I can see all my references. Why is that?

  • You can see all your references because you have synchronised your references with your account. It is the standard function of Zotero. If you can change it go to Tools - Options - Sync
  • I am now connected to the server, but it still doesn´t work.
  • do you have any more suggestions@dstillman ?
  • It's not a question of whether you're connected to the server — it's having your Zotero data directory in a server-mirrored home directory, which on Windows can break normal filesystem behavior. You'd have to move your data directory to a regular, unmirrored location on your hard drive (assuming this is the problem). The upcoming Zotero 5.0 will use a "Zotero" folder at the root of your home directory, so that's what I'd recommend (unless your entire home directory is mirrored).
