URLs without "retrieved from"

Hi,

we are using Zotero and Zotpress to generate a bibliography in APA style.

If we have an entry with a URL in the bibliography the URL is preceded by the text "retrieved from". We would like to have the URL but not with this text, since we are the authors and did not retrieve it from anywhere.

If there is no URL in the entry but a DOI, a URLis generated automatically (starting with https://doi.org/). Now this is not preceded by "retrieved from" but also no hyperlink is generated.

Both of course is not what we want: we want hyperlinks in both cases and no additional texts.

Does anyone know how to achieve this?
  • To remove the "retrieved from" you can edit the "access" macro in the csl file. Just delete lines 146-147, 154-155, 170-171, 180-181.
Here is some info on how to edit: https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/wiki/Editing-Styles

That the https...doi is not coming out as a hyperlink has to do with the wordprocessor, I think.
  • Start here: https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step

This is controlled by your word processor: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/85640/#Comment_85640
  • ZotPress...

I see that you might be creating a document for a WordPress site. I think that I remember that ZotPress will, if set to do so, automatically convert strings beginning with http https into proper web links. If I am mistaken, I know that you can easily do this when doing final edits of your WordPress site.
  • ZotPress is automatically generating DOIs as links for me.
  • Thanks for all your comments!

Indeed, DWL-SDCA is right: I have a Zotero collection in the cloud and we try to create a bibliography on a WordPress site using ZotPress. When I undertsnad the comments correctly, the formatting is not done by Zotero but by the client application. Is that correct? So there should be some style-file inthe ZotPress directory. I did not yet find such a file. Maybe I should switch to a ZotPress Forum?
  • if you want to create a custom style, yes. But you should also get a style available in CSL to work as you want in ZotPress
  • Yes, indeed. This was the workaround I made in the meantime, and that is also satisfying. Last week I tried to change the default style, but that didn't work. Now I tried to include the style in the shortcode, and that works fine. I then just tried out some styles and ended up with a style that shows ale information I would like to seen and does not generate the "retreived from" text.

No I wil go for the problem why some urls are converted to proper web links and others not.

BTW: I really like the combination of Zotero and Zotpress. Its really the first simple, working, scalable and powerfull solution that I have seen to put a bibliography on a website.
