Pages mangling with "and" or +

I am working with Chicago style (author+date). The text I am editing is in German.

When I insert author/date and pages like "38-41 und 84-87" in the shown short title the pages are changed into "(author date, 38-41-87)". The same result I get with + instead of "und". Also if I change to another style the pages keep being mangled.
  • I'm not following exactly what you are doing. How do you want the text to look, and where are you entering the two sets of page numbers (in the page number field of the citation? in the suffix field of the citation? You said you put the page numbers in the "short title"--what did you mean by that?).

    Feel free to write in German if you prefer. There are many German speakers on this forum you can help.
  • Just did a quick check, and I can't reproduce that behavior, when two ranges are joined by "und" and Chicago (author-date) is set to the German locale. Not sure what would cause page numbers to collapse like that, but it's certainly not something we've seen before.

    To be more explicit:

    When I customize a cite, I put in the Page Locator either
    * 38-41 und 84-87 (or)
    * 38-41 + 84-87 (or)
    * 38-41. 84-87

    the citation always ends up with this form:
    (author date, 38-41-87)
  • Just so we can try to replicate this, how/where exactly are you entering that information? Are we in the classic add citaton dialog or the regular one with the red border? Are you putting this into the field that says "page" or somewhere else?

    I am using the Quick Format Citation dialog and with Page Locator (default "Page") I mean exactly what is written on the documentation page of word_processor_plugin_usage. I am opening the Locator with a keyboard shortcut and insert page numbers beside "Page".

    I am on a Debian Linux box with latest Zotero as Firefox plugin and LibreOffice Version 4.3.3.2.
  • DIfferent tests always showed the same result:

    * 38-41.84-87 (with or without space after ".")
    * 38-41,84-87
    * 38-41 84-87 (also with two spaces)

    = citation: (author date, 38-41-87)

    But if I put a space after "," I get want I want:

    (author date, 38-41, 84-87)

    but with two spaces between the page ranges.

    That doesn't look good but seems to be the solution for the time being.

    I'm still at a loss for why this would be happening, so I'm just asking for general information, but:

    * What is your version of Firefox? and
    * Do you have any other Firefox extensions installed?

    If you do have other extensions installed, try disabling them and see what happens.

    I always use the latest version of Firefox. Good idea to look after extensions. I disabled some suspected extensions but to no avail.

    I can live with using the comma in enumerations in order to side-track the problem.
