Zotero won't retrieve pdf

I am having the same problem as a user in another discussion (http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/6201/does-not-save-pdf/ , which was closed however): I can't get zotero to automatically grab the pdf off of an journal site.

I changed my settings to ask zotero not to take a snapshot but to save the pdf and instead it does the very opposite.

Here's the site I'm trying to save:
http://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevLett.98.247201

Thanks.
  • I have opened a ticket for this issue. https://www.zotero.org/trac/ticket/1413

For the time being you can right click on the link to the PDF, select "Save as Zotero snapshot" and then drag the snapshot onto the item record in your Zotero collection.
  • emstoudenmire: To clarify, this isn't the same issue as the other thread, which was just about turning on the attachment preference. Attachment support has to be specifically added to translators, and not all translators currently support it.
  • I second this. The latest update of Zotero Sync won't grab the PDF from any site.

Also, the "save link as Zotero snapshot" doesn't work either. It just grabs an empty file.
  • Just to be sure, cricketbird, is your automatically attach associated PDFs preference on?
  • Sorry - yes, that preference item is definitely on. Zotero used to always grab PDFs before the most recent update, but is currently not doing it.
  • Please provide a URL.

  • Also, Firefox 3.0.7
    Zotero 1.5b2
    Mac OS 10.5.6
  • That first link works for me and pulls the PDF fine. Do you have Zotero errors in "Report errors..." or can you generate debug output?
  • Thanks for the help! Also, what about the issue where Zotero is still taking snapshots of the websites even though I have turned that preference off?
  • emstoudenmire: Probably more technical detail than you want, but it's doing that on the links.aps.org site because Zotero uses COinS to save rather than a dedicated translator, and there's currently no standard way to specify a PDF via COinS. A dedicated translator will need to be written to support PDF saving.

sean - I just sent the debugging log to support@zot....org. Can you get it there?
  • Got it. Thanks.
  • Just an update - apparently our library added a lot of new IP addresses that weren't registering with the journals properly. They've fixed it.
