Citations converted to plain text in Word

I updated my Mac OS to Sierra (10.12.3). The word document I was working on before the update has now converted all of my citations (from Zotero Standalone v 4.0.29.15) to plain text and will no longer add a bibliography.

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Updating the OS wouldn't have made a difference. Opening and saving the file in Google Docs or any other non-Microsoft-Word software (that does not support word fields), or pressing Remove Field Codes in the Zotero plugin could have caused it.

    Try a backup from earlier on, or if you don't have one, Time Machine may have backed it up (although I don't really know the specifics of how Time Machine works, so it may have not).

    Otherwise, I'm afraid there is little we can do.
