Zotero on shared network folder does not refresh content?

Hi

I have put my Zotero repo on a shared folder and both of my desktop and laptop Zotero points to same same network folder for keeping and reading the Z database. I was hoping that any change that has been done by the client zotero pc could be reflected on other client(desktop to laptop vice versa). But it seems like Zotero would only refresh the content if FF is restarted. Is there a workaround to this issue?

    No. A zotero database should not be accessed by multiple clients at the same time. If you want to synchronize data between your machines, try out the sync beta 1.5b2.

    I am using 1.5 already. But I personally have no interest in using the online syncing feature because I already deployed my own syncing pipeline here.

    I guess this is the end of the story for me then :) It is a very good application but it does not do what I need which is accessing-writing and refreshing the content from a common database.

    Btw there are no multiple users, just multiple computers. In practice only one user(which is me) will be accessing the content at any given time(desktop or laptop). Would there be a solution to refreshing content, if this is the case?

    Having a single database in one location is not syncing. Furthermore, you probably shouldn't have two copies of firefox open and trying to use the same sqlite database when it is kept on a network file server. To quote their FAQ:
    People who have a lot of experience with Windows tell me that file locking of network files is very buggy and is not dependable. If what they say is true, sharing an SQLite database between two or more Windows machines might cause unexpected problems.
    I do not believe there is a way to refresh the panes by forcing a select query right now. This might be a useful debug option to have, though: sometimes zotero has not always kept track of the changes it made to the database all that well (such as a tagging bug that was recently addressed).

    If it had such a function, I still wouldn't trust simultaneous access over smb. I hope you're at least backing up your database periodically.

    On the contrary, this is precisely what Zotero 1.5 does.
