For the most part, it is imperative that the ability to generate journal abbreviations and truncate author names (I.E. to change Jon Francis Smith to Smith, J. F.) be introduced in an upcoming version of Zotero. Without these functions, it is impossible to convince anyone to quit using Endnote. While Zotero is great, it isn't a replacement - not even close. These added abilities would essentially make it compliant with most physical science bibliography requirements.
  • There are already styles that abbreviate given names & you can write new styles that do this. I agree that better journal abbreviation would be nice, but Zotero has convinced me & others to quit using EndNote: you can insert a single journal abbreviation for each reference. Different citation styles use either the full journal title or the journal abbreviation, as required by the style guidelines. It is true that one journal abbreviation is not adequate for ALL publications, but I can usually just use the most popular abbreviation for many different journals that I write for.
