importing keywords from PDFs

Hello
I am a new Zotero user and I am trying to import keywords from Pdfs intot the tags category using "retrieve metadata from PDFs". The title, authors, volume etc are imported OK but keywords don't appear in the "info" neither "tags" categories. And I ticked the relevant button in "preferences". Did I miss something out?
thanks a lot
  • You cannot import keywords from PDFs directly and it may not be possible to import them at all, but this depends on how the PDF is identified and which translator is used to retrieve the metadata.

The problem here is that it is not easy to define a rule that a computer could follow to identify what the keywords are. There is no standard way to express this info in an article PDF.

The translators that the retrieve metadata function uses may not provide keywords or the keywords may not be available in the article database that the translator uses.
  • thank you so is there a way around this? it seems that it does not work for any of my Pdfs..txs
  • Type the keywords manually, or locate the PDF in an online database that provides tha key words and import from there.
  • txs, this gonna be a problem because I want to import and tag a large number of Pdfs, there is no way I can type the keywords manually of relocate all my pdf in other databases..
  • sorry, as mronkko says, there simply is no current solution for that. Retrieve Metadata will never import tags/keywords.
  • But you _can_ copy the keywords as a block, Add a tag, paste them in, and they will be added as individual tags.
