Editing Zotero Citation

Hi,
I am having some trouble editing Zotero citations. I was able to do it once, but it has been finicky since.

I get this message when I try to edit a citation "You must place the cursor in a Zotero citation to edit it". I have placed the cursor in the citation, but is there a specific place I should place the cursor to add a new citation for example? maybe at the beginning or end?

    What do you exactly do? This message is typical if you try to edit bibliography part of paper. But you have to edit the citation in the body of your paper not in bibliography.
    Which style do you use? Which version of Zotero do you use?

    Placing the cursor in the middle of the citation is usually best. This should work. Is the citation in a footnote or table or some other place other than the main body of the document? Can you edit a citation you insert into a new document?
