New Synch problems in Standalone Zotero

Uploading Microsoft word files works for the online Zotero version, but makes new problems for the Zotero Standalone version. The stand alone version shows the title of the document, but not the document itself on a different computer. The file is retrievable only on the uploading computer. On a different computer, the Standalone file is looking for a link, but can not be downloaded.
  • Almost certainly has nothing to do with MS Word:

  • I think the problem is that Standalone does upload the file, but links it only to the local computer. Therefore a Standalone version at a different computer cannot retrieve the file.
  • how do you add the file to Standalone?
  • Using the green button ( New Item) and click "store copy of the file". This usually loaded up any files such a word documents, tables or jpg files.
  • and why do you think the above link does not apply then? It almost certainly does.
  • I did do the reset in preferences ( erase all local data, restore from Zotero server ). The current result is that my standalone is not synching at all. I don't quite understand why that happens...

Oh my. That wasn't a great idea. The only thing the troubleshooting tells you to use is "Reset File Sync History".

Beyond that we'd need more precise descriptions than "is not syncing at all" https://www.zotero.org/support/reporting_problems#provide_steps_to_reproduce
  • Standalone "Not synching" means "not synching from the server" to be precise. The standalone version is set to synch from server. The rounded green arrow in the right upper corner keeps rotating......but no synching occurs for more than 20min.....

I am going to reinstall standalone at my work computer with the help of my IT guy who needs to give his permission installing programs with his ID and password.

    Thanks for trying to help
  • Don't re-install . There's no point and it won't help. You triggered a full sync by restoring from the server, which can take well over 20mins. Currently upwards of two hours at busy times. Just let it run.
