Mac Sierra: Can't annotate PDFs in Preview

AndySymonsThis used to work for me. I use an Apple Mac with Zotero standalone and Preview to view and annotate PDF files, which are saved as copies within Zotero. However, since only recently, when I go to save an annotated PDF it says it cannot save it. Apparently it is read only. I have to make a copy, save it in a temporary location, delete the Zotero copy and then re-insert the modified PDF. This is a bit round-the-houses and prone to error / loss of files. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can set my system so that edits to Zotero PDFs are allowed?
