"Save in Zotero" button not working in Firefox

Debug Output : D1476177214

I tried on different webpages, same result. The rest of Zotero seems to work fine, and I still can add new articles by entering the DOI in the Zotero panel. It just looks like it cannot read website contents anymore.

Thank you in advance for your help.
  • We'd still want some URLs where this is failing here in the post.
  • Thank you for your answer. Some examples from my library:
    http://nar.oxfordjournals.org/content/44/20/e155
    http://www.nature.com/nmeth/journal/v6/n5/full/nmeth.1318.html
    http://bmcsystbiol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1752-0509-7-74

It seems like Zotero does not find anything citable in these pages. When I click on the "Save in Zotero" button nothing happens.
According to my library it was still working on 24/11/2016. When I look at the debug output, Zotero complains about window.content being null.

[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: window.content is null" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/zoteroPane.js" line: 3171}]
    ZoteroPane</this.addItemFromPage@chrome://zotero/content/zoteroPane.js:3171:3
    Zotero_Browser</this.saveAsWebPage@chrome://zotero/content/browser.js:179:3
    Zotero_Browser</this.scrapeThisPage@chrome://zotero/content/browser.js:167:4
    oncommand@chrome://browser/content/browser.xul:1:1

I tried reinstalling Zotero and disabling Better-Bibtex, but no luck so far.

    Cheers,
  • On https://www.zotero.org/support/troubleshooting_translator_issues could you run through 5, 10 (if applicable) and provide all information from 11 that you haven't already, please?
  • Step 5: "Reset Translators" + a Firefox restart does not seem to help.
Step 10-I: Firefox is currently accepting cookies. I tried to set it on "Remember history" and to restart, but no change.
Step 10-II: Disabling all extensions except Zotero did not help.
    Step 11: See below

Problem: Translators not working on any website
Debug ID: D972168744 (1 line when I load the page, 45 more lines when I click the Save in Zotero button)
    Step to reproduce:
    - Go to http://nar.oxfordjournals.org/content/44/20/e155
    - Press the "Save in Zotero" button
    Current behaviour: nothing happens
Expected behaviour: translate and add the current webpage in Zotero
Extra information: During my firefox restarts, I noticed that the "Save in Zotero as webpage" option was available only just after a restart. It asks for my master password and then actually saves the webpage in Zotero (without any translation, so just title and url). But after this first save, it does not work anymore, on any webpage (nothing happens when I click on the "Save in Zotero as webpage" option), until I restart again Firefox. The other usual options are missing in all cases (save as article, etc).
    System Information:
    - Fedora 24
    - Zotero for Firefox 4.0.29.16
    - Firefox 50.0

    Thank you for your time.
  • @Dan%20Stillman -- could you look at the debug? Any other ideas?
  • I'd guess that you forced e10s to be enabled in Firefox (or it somehow became enabled automatically, but it shouldn't if Zotero is installed).
  • If you're not sure, load about:support and look next to Multiprocess Windows. It should say "Disabled by add-ons".
  • Hi Dan, thank you for your help, setting browser.tabs.remote.force-enable to False in about:config solved my issue. I created it myself some days ago as a workaround for a Firefox 50 linux-specific issue with HTML5 videos (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1318404), and totally forgot about it... Retrospectively that was stupid of me to force-enable something that my extensions explicitly disabled.

Anyway it seems another workaround that does not involve e10s exists for the HTML5 problem, so I can fully enjoy Zotero and Youtube at the same time.

Thank you again for you help.
