Multiple researchers with overlapping areas of interest

Our lab, like most, has multiple researchers with distinct projects and methods but overlapping references. I would like to establish a single WebDAV database that will store their PDFs and other reference files without duplication, but will not require each researcher to download other people's documents when synchronizing. Is this possible, and if so, does it require any special configuration?
  • The WebDAV files are currently stored in one big zip file, so there is not really a way to do this. With that said the group features, currently under development, should offer a much more viable solution for this sort of collaboration.

That doesn't seem to be the case (each item seems to get its own zip file).

I do think local syncing could also help to solve this problem. Syncing attachments over a local network would generally be much faster, will be less bound to storage capacity restraints and wouldn't require access to a WebDAV service.
