Word 2016

Hi all,

I am using Zotero Standalone with MS Word 2016, and the Add-ins tab is missing. This means I have no citation icon etc.

The Add-ins tab is enabled under Word Options, Customise Ribbon.

I have followed the "manual install" instructions described on Zotero.org - I have copied the Zotero.dot file to the startup folder, restarted Word, and the Add-ins tab is still missing.

Please advise. Thanks,
  • This is on Mac, I take it? What's the path to your startup folder? What Zotero version are you using?
  • Windows 10 Home; Zotero 4.0.29.10

The path taken from Word (File > Options > Advanced > General > File Locations..) and is "C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP"
  • You shouldn't need to manually install on Windows. Try Reinstalling from the Cite tab in the Zotero preferences. In Word 2016 for Windows, the add-on will
    a) be in a "Zotero" tab, not an add-in tab and
    b) use the Zotero.dotm file, so if you have to install manually, use that.

    Thanks.

Resolved, but note I had tried to use "Reinstall Microsoft Word Add-in" without success before investigating how to manually install.

    1) Delete zotero.dot and zotero.dotm from STARTUP folder
    2) Reinstall Microsoft Word Add-in from Zotero

The Zotero ribbon is now visible in Word.
  • I am using word 2016 and had faced a similar issue. I resolved it without reinstalling the add in.
    Open word
    go to file/Options/Addins
at the bottom of the page in Manage. From the dropdown list choose disabled item , click on go
select zotero add on and enable it..it seems word disables the addon on its own.
