editing a generated bibliography?

I'm trying to add some references into a bibliography. When I try to use the add feature and I update, the entire bibliography is replaced by this: (bibliography). I'm happy to do them by hand, but I can't figure out how to do it without ZOTERO autoformatting in an odd way. help!

    If this is just for a final edit, make a copy of the document, use the "Remove Zotero field codes" (broken chainlink icon) function in the Word add-on, the manually add.

    If you're still in the middle of writing, probably worth to troubleshoot why this is failing. In that case -- which "add" feature are you using?
