Export Markup of ItemNotes

edited September 24, 2016
Is it somehow possible to also export the markup of notes that are kept along with an item? They are apparently stored in the `itemNotes` table with HTML markup and zotero probably just strips the HTML tags when exporting an item.
Thus, when I export to a bibtex file I can find my notes as annote Entries, but the whole markup is lost. I cannot distinguish items in a list (`ul`/`ol`) or paragraphs and their headlines...

Is it somehow possible to get the markup exported? For example using markown in the annote field?
  • I'd have to check on different export formats to be sure, but generally I don't think there is, beyond the API. Are you tied to bibtex specifically or are you agnostic about the format?

I'm not sure if I'm tied to bibtex. I just want to have an export of my data in a proper reference/library format, including the PDFs and notes etc..
I thought bibtex would be the way to go, but I'm open for alternatives :)
  • It'd help to understand the context for this -- what do you need this for?
(context matters because e.g. Zotero RDF is a very rich format, but if you're interested in data exchange with other software it's pretty much useless etc.)
  • Ok, cool. I just gave the Zotero RDF a try and it seems to contain everything I was looking for, including the notes with HTML markup.

Thank you very much, adamsmith! :)
  • If you're just looking to have a readable export, BBT has a bundled translator ("Collected notes") that exports just notes -- standalone notes and notes attached to references, not the extra field -- to HTML.
