Existing, manually-referenced documents

I have existing documents in which the referencing was done manually, with each reference typed and no management software used (actually it was but not in the way it was intended). Would it be possible to make Zotero look for things like (Author et al., Year; Author et al., Year) and change them into Zotero-managed references?

    that's been asked repeatedly and it's very hard to do - so certainly this won't be forthcoming in the medium term. There are some existing, non-Zotero, tools which try to parse documents for bib information, but I've not been very impressed by their performance - but have a look at cb2Bib, for example
