Extratcting annotations and zotfile
Hello,
I am trying to create the option to extract annotations in my zotero standalone.
I have downloaded the zotfile add-on for firefox, but when I open zotero standalone, and go to the add-on manager, I cannot see zotfile, and I can't figure out how to "install add-on from file" because I can't see the file.
I am using version 4.0.29.10, windows 10 home, firefox 47.0.1, and PDF Xchange Viewer.
Can you help?
Many Thanks!
Rachel

However, now zotero in firefox cannot seem to download PDFs automatically. When I used it on my old laptop I remember that I could download the PDF automatically from certain sites such as JSTOR, but now I can only "save to zotero using jstor" and then manually add the PDF. This is obviously fine to do, but I was wondering whether there was a way to get the automatic download back up and running.
Many thanks,
Rachel
I was looking for an option to download the PDF from the top taskbar in firefox, but the only options I get are:
"save to zotero using jstor; save to zotero using DOI; save to zotero using embedded data; save to zotero as Webpage (with/without snapshot)"
However, I have just realised that if you go into the PDF in the online reader, and click the download icon in the top right hand corner, then there does appear an option to save to Zotero and retrieve metadata (under "open with" and "save file"). Is this the normal way of downloading PDFs with this version? Or should it be available before entering the actual PDF file online...?
Many thanks,
Rachel
Whether you receive the pdf after clicking the Zotero button is a matter of several things:
Are you within an instution that has a subscription to JSTOR?
If not, do have a personal MyJSTOR account?
Is the article you want open access on JSTOR?
There are different levels of what is available depending on the answers.
All of the "Save to Zotero" options will save the PDF from the site to Otero, along with the reference information, when the PDF is available (e.g., if you are on campus and your library has a subscription and the other ways DWL-SDCA describes). There is one quirk with JSTOR, however. Before Zotero can grab PDFs from JSTOR, you need to first manually view one PDF and accept the site terms (see here: https://www.zotero.org/support/known_translator_issues). You only need to do this one time during a session--afterwards, Zotero will be able to grab the PDF automatically. Other sites don't have this issue.
