Libreoffice Plugin: Report ID: 1667451062

It has been some time since I used the Libreoffice plugin, but when I tried today it no longer works. The Zotero buttons are visible, but clicking them does nothing. I am using Debian stable with Firefox 47.0.1 from backports. I was using the latest version of Libreoffice 5.1, but downgraded to 4.3 and neither one works.

I have tried the following:

1. Reinstalling the Libreoffice plugin through firefox.

2. removing libreoffice config (rm -rf .config/libreoffice) and reinstalling the plugin.

3. Downgrading from libreoffice 5.1 to 4.3, removing the libreoffice config, and reinstalling the plugin.

4. Removing the firefox config (rm -rf .mozilla), removing the libreoffice config, reinstalling zotero, reinstalling the libreoffice plugin.

In every case above, the libreoffice buttons appear, but clicking them does nothing. I have libreoffice-java-common installed, because that was suggested in another forum post by someone experiencing a similar problem. If you have any idea how to troubleshoot, I would appreciate it.
  • I'm not sure if this is helpful.

  • I tried again with the extensions disabled (other than Zotero). I still get no response from Libreoffice plugin buttons. Here is the error report:

  • Since it was working previously, I am guessing that something recently installed must have broken it. Below is a list of every package that was installed over the past month before today. I did a kernel upgrade and installed virtualbox to install Windows 7 in a virtual machine, but there were some other things installed in security updates. Also, I had to change a BIOS setting to get the virtual machine to work. I'm not sure if any of these things could have broken Zotero.

  • I can't see anything that'd cause this among the packages. This does seem like the relevant error message:
    [JavaScript Error: "Component returned failure code: 0x804b0036 (NS_ERROR_SOCKET_ADDRESS_IN_USE) [nsIServerSocket.init]" {file: "file:///home/matt/.mozilla/firefox/v3b4xuoe.default/extensions/zoteroOpenOfficeIntegration@zotero.org/components/zoteroOpenOfficeIntegration.js" line: 62}]

Since you're on debian this may not be obvious, but have you tried just restarting your computer (if that's an option)?

Also, I'm wondering about the Multi-process staged rollout add-on. Do you know anything about that? I think it's related to e10s implementation in Firefox and that'd definitely cause problems with Zotero (though I'd expect much bigger issues).

Nothing unusual about how you're running Firefox, right? No multiple profiles, no flags you're starting it with?
  • adamsmith: Thank you. Although I still don't know what caused it, rebooting seems to have fixed the problem. The machine hadn't been rebooted in probably a month or longer.

Before I ask for help, I should have tried the first thing every tech support person says: reboot. :)
  • It was another process -- possibly a dead Firefox -- sitting on the same socket and preventing LO and Firefox from communicating.

I cannot install Libreoffice plugin on the Mac. I'm using the standalone version.

I've rebooted. I've upgraded Java. I've installed JDK in addition to JRE. I've upgraded LibreOffice to the most current version (5.1.4). I've checked the Zotero updates (I have the most current at 4.0.29.5). I've tried to install the plugin manually. This latter completely locks up LibreOffice and I have to kill it.

No error beyond Zotero saying it cannot install the plugin.

    I'm on Yosemite (OS X 10.10.5).

    Any suggestions????
  • @cmbarton -- follow up in this thread: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/61212/lo-word-processor-plugin-failure-osx-10116-lo-5142/#Item_2 seems like the exact same issue. I don't have a solution, nor a good idea on how to solve this at this point, but we might as well collect every relevant bit of info in a single thread.
  • Thanks for the quick response, even if disheartening. I will follow up in the other thread.
