Add citations to existing reference list

Hello all,

I was wondering if there is a way for Zotero to add citations to a paper that already has a bibliography in it? I was asked to add missing citations to a draft with an existing bibliography that was created with endnote. When trying to add the Zotero citations the normal way (add citation button) Zotero doesn't adjust to the source number list, but adds the citations as 1,2 rather than the correct placement. I really don't want to go through the entire paper and redo all the citation work. Is there a work-around, or do I need to recreate all the citations manually this time with Zotero? I don't have the paper library from the original author and he said his endnote expired so I'm also unlikely to receive the library. Please help.

Thank you!!
  • I can't think of a workaround, sorry. Since the other citations are just text from zotero's perspective, I don't see a way to integrate them with me zotero ones
  • Thank you very much for your reply!

The citations aren't just text (they appear grey when I hover over the number, and they are linked in the document so for example if I double click on [2] it goes to the respective place in the bibliography). Does that change anything, or still manual?
  • No, sorry, same story
