I know this has already been asked (How to move items between folders, not copy)

Hello,

I know this has already been asked, so if an answer exists please just point me in the right direction.

I need to be able to easily save an item to Zotero in whichever folder is currently active (the folder my cursor last was on) and then MOVE it, not COPY to another folder.

-On a typical day I download a pdf to the random active folder that I last clicked on. But I want to move it to a different folder, so I do so.

-When I do so the pdf is in the new folder, but the pdf is also still in the old folder.

-So I delete the one pdf, but the pdf in the new folder also disappears.

According to the one thread I read it was a problem years back that the creators were thinking of fixing but has that happened?

The only way I can see getting around this is every time I save an item to zotero I have to make sure I click on My Library, and not leave the cursor on a random folder, but this is pretty annoying to do.

If zotero stand alone, how do you organize your files to get around this?

Thanks.
  • Items can now be be moved (instead of copied) between collections with a modifier key

Cmd on OS X, Shift on Windows/Linux
Known issue: No cursor feedback on Windows

You should also familiarize yourself with the Zotero collection model: collections are not folders: https://www.zotero.org/support/collections_and_tags#the_zotero_collections_model That may help to clear up some misunderstandings.

FWIW, I still find it much faster to alt+tab to Zotero Standalone select a collectino and alt+Tab back to the browser when saving.
  • Thanks so much! I really appreciate the help. It worked perfectly.
