duplicate checking for group libraries

It doesn't appear like the duplicate checking works for group libraries.
what is the best way of adding files to group libraries and not having duplicates?

    If you just mean you don't see the duplicates, use right-click --> Show Duplicates on the group library on the left. If you mean something else by not working, please describe.

    thank you, I see the duplicate items now by right clicking; as you described. my understanding is that the duplicates are only checked within each collection, can I force it to check all items under the group library?

    no, duplicates always refer to the whole library.

    I merged the duplicates, but the attachments are all there, in other words if I had 2 duplicates with a pdf for each one, I now have 2 of the same pdfs uder the one article entry. Any way of deleting the duplicate files when we delete the duplicate items?

    not currently, not, sorry. Auto-deleting exactly identical attachments during merge has long been on the wishlist, but has not been implemented. (The general reason attachments stay duplicate is because Zotero has no way of distinguishing an annotated PDF, say, from a clean one).
