Error when selecting a new Style for a document

OS: Max OSX 10.10
Word for Mac 2011

When trying to use a new style for her (rather large) document a student gets an error message that reads

"An error occurred while updating your document. The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error - 10000.) @[setCode:field.m:592]"

Is it because the word-document is too long (about 150 Pages)?
Is there anything we can do about this?

    (FWIW, in some cases deleting the bibliography before converting has helped).
