I can not import EndNote file *.enl

Folks,
I have lot of previously collected references with EndNote. Unfortunately, I was not able to import these files. They have extension .enl and I use EndNote 6.02 on Windows XP. Even I could not see such extension in the Zotero's import/export option.

Could you help me, please?

  • i use endnote 9.
how to find the endnote download page to download the so called "RIS" style?
I didn't find it on endnote website.
    thanks
  • i went here
    http://www.endnote.com/support/enstyledetail.asp?SORT=2&PLAT=0&PAGE=1&METH=0&DISC=none&JOUR=RIS&BSRT=none&FF1=none&FF2=none&FF3=none&CITE=none&DKEY=714200664509EAA

and i download and opened with endnote 9. but it just opened a description of the RIS in a window. When i go back to "file-->export-->" it still offers just txt, html, xml, rtf.
there is still no "ris" format in the drop down choice.

please help to convert from enl into ris.
    thanks

I think you shouldn't open the style in Endnote. Instead, follow these instructions found on the page you linked to:

"Once the Zip file(s) is downloaded to your desktop, copy the file(s) to the appropriate folder in your EndNote program directory (usually located in Windows—C:\Program Files\EndNote\Styles or Mac OS X—Harddrive:Applications:EndNote:Styles)."

  • To recapitulate: you need to select the Refman RIS style as an output style (not just open it). If you do that and you select export, you'll have a RIS file that you can feed to Zotero.
