zotero won't open - i get an error message "there was an error starting Zotero" I have tried downloading and signing in on another computer and the library is empty

But, tersely: No. There are people who specialize in (fee-based) institutional training. If you're at an academic institution, you might see if your library or similar has or would be interested in this.
