How to turn off "Keep Sources Sorted"

Hello, I am new in Zotero. My stuff for many years was LaTeX/BiBTeX, but now too many colleagues are working in Word only. So, I have installed Zotero and its Word plugin. It really looks great. One thing that annoys me is that "Keep Sources Sorted" option is on by default. How can I switch it off, please?
  • While you can't tell Zotero to keep the option unchecked, there are citation styles that don't have the option, but I'm not quite sure why you'd want to turn this off on a regular basis. Could you describe why you typically uncheck this, there may be a misunderstanding of some kind.
  • First of all, in my regular work I need to use APA6. Then, I quite often like to put a bit of prose as a guidance and then order matters. For example: (see X, 1999 for pioneering work; but also consult A, 2008 that applied different methodology) etc. etc. So, only occasionally I actually get some advantage from by-default sort.
  • OK, not sure I have anything for you, then. You could modify the APA style to never sort, but that doesn't seem right for you either (but do let me know if that'd be of interest. It's pretty easy and very quick). There's no way to toggle Zotero's default, sorry.
  • I'm in the same position. adamsmith - I'd be grateful for leads or explanation of how/where to modify a style to disable sorting behavior.
  • Sure. Delete
    <sort>
    <key macro="author"/>
    <key macro="issued-sort"/>
    </sort>

    See https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step for general instructions (in particular, make sure to change the style title and id)
  • Worked perfectly. Thanks very much!
