zotero-collections-pane: width=0

After upgrading to Debian-8, Gnome 3, Iceweasel 38.5.0, zotero 4.0.29.8:
the collections-pane disappeared. I have no 'My Library' icon or visible collections.

I think I found the problem, but would appreciate some suggestions on details.

In about:config, I found the following entry:

extensions.zotero.pane.persist;{
"zotero-collections-pane":{"width":"0"},
"zotero-tags-splitter":{"state":""},
"zotero-tag-selector":{"height":"0","collapsed":"","showAutomatic":"","filterToScope":""},
"zotero-collections-splitter":{"state":"collapsed"},
"zotero-items-pane":{"width":"863"}, ...
  • What values should I use to restore the collections-pane?
  • I think I caused the problem by 'closing' the pane, but I have not been able to find any user-control that reopens it.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Tom

    You don't see any type of 'grippy' at the very left of the Zotero pane that allows you to reopen the collections pane?

    (edit: removed incorrect advice)
  • Yeah, if the grippy's not there, there's something weird going on on your system (maybe because of Iceweasel). In any case, state is persisted to that pref at shutdown, so if you really don't see the grippy, editing that may not work. But you can just open prefs.js in your Firefox profile directory with Firefox closed and delete the extensions.zotero.pane.persist line.
  • Rintze and Dan,

    Thank you both for your help.
    1. Deleting extensions.zotero.pane.persist from prefs.js did indeed fix the problem.

    2. When I attempted to reproduce the problem, I drug the separator (pointer at right edge of the collections) to the far left to hide the collections. After doing so, I was able to drag the separator (pointer at left edge of the items) back to the right, in order to restore the collections.

    I think I tried this before the fix, but perhaps not.

    3. I don't remember having seen any 'grippy', but may not have known what to look for. I now notice five very faint vertical dots midway down the panel, hovering over them changes pointer to a hand, and clicking them does hide/restore the collections. They may have been there all along.

    4. I now notice that zotero does not have edge borders, for which I mistook the separator.

    In short, the major problem all along may have been my needing new glasses, not reading the documentation carefully enough, and not having used zotero for a couple of years.

    Thanks again for your help,
    Tom
