Drag & drop in Zotero standalone not working

Checked the threads and couldn't find an answer. The issue is this, I'm working with Zotero standalone and up to today after importing a reference, could drag and drop it to wherever. Now it doesn't do anything, for any reference. I can import the reference, but it's static.
Environment: Windows 7, and Zotero version 4.0.28.7.
(I also have the FF plugin, but closed the browser and it still didn't work, so the problem isn't there.)
Any advice will be much appreciated!
Donna
  • Error report ID: 891987936
  • Start by updating Zotero. You should be on 4.0.29.5

Many thanks Adam, updated Zotero and it works now :)

  • Hi,

I use the standalone version 4.0.29.5 on OpenSuse 42.1 (64bit), but the drag and drop does not work for me either.
  • meaning drag&drop to collections or something else?
  • I too can no longer move items and am using 4.0.29.5. I used to be able to move a note or pdf from one title to another. This is useful when an article is available and has been collected from two locations. One may have a pdf and the other has better citation information or my old notes. I had been picking the record with better citation and moving the other files in, then deleting the record with less preferable citation.
  • which OS? And are all drag&drop operations broken or just the specific one you describe?
  • Windows 7 x64. I can move items from one collection to another. Are there any other types of drag&drop operations?
  • Could you provide a Report ID?
  • No errors in there. Can you restart Zotero and provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) for trying to drag a note from one item to another?
  • D1889149352
  • Nothing helpful in there, unfortunately. Someone else might have an idea, but I can't think of any reason this would happen, and I can't reproduce it. I assume you've tried restarting Zotero and/or your computer? To clarify, this happens just dragging a yellow child note from under one item to another in the root of My Library, with no search or tags active?
  • I rebooted - no effect. Under My Library I have two folders. If I go into one I have numerous articles. I made a child note under one article and opened another article to see Snapshot, the pdf etc. When I try to drag the note into that area or on top of the other article I get a circle with slash symbol next to the file name. Doing this in standalone.

I swear I used to be able to do this. You can?

I still can move an article from Unfiled Items to the folder.
  • It shouldn't matter, but note that I said to try this in the library root. Just create two new empty items, add an empty child note to one, and try to drag it directly on top of the other.
  • I didn't understand that. With your help I did figure out that I can move files between articles in my collections or Duplicate Items, but not in Unfiled Items. I must have been in Unfiled Items whenever I tried it.

I manually made items and notes as you suggested and got the same result - works in collections but not in Unfiled Items.

    Thanks
