edit bibliography pane freezes

To whom it may concern,
I have been using zotero word plugin for several years. Recently each time I am trying to modify the bibliography list with "edit bibliography button" the windows freezes and do not work.
I can select a paper but I cannot modify the bibliography throught the windows. The editing windows also remains empty. Could you give me some suggestions?
I am using the most recent version of the word plugin, zotero 4.0.29.6 and word 2010. Thanks in advance for the help.
  • Could you say what you're trying to do with the edit bibliography feature?
  • Ok it is very simple I have a website reference which looks as follows:
"(S&T)2, 2014. GHGenius, Model Version 4.03a. (S&T)2 Consultants Inc. for Natural Resources Canada, Delta, British Columbia, Canada."

I want to modify it with the edit bibliography dialog to add an URL:
"(S&T)2, 2014. GHGenius, Model Version 4.03a. (S&T)2 Consultants Inc. for Natural Resources Canada, Delta, British Columbia, Canada. [WWW Document]. URL http://www.GHGenius.ca"

I also get the following error:
"[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: bibEditInterface.bibliography[0].entry_ids[item.value] is undefined" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/integration/editBibliographyDialog.js" line: 256}]"
  • I don't get this working correctly either (and it should) but for your purposes, you really shouldn't be doing these types of things in edit bibliography, that's not what it's intended for (which is mainly to remove or add items to the bibliography).

Start by just adding the URL to the item in question in Zotero. If that doesn't work you may still have to adjust the citation style (there are several that should look pretty much like you want). But don't modify citations manually unless you absolutely have to. It breaks all types of things (including changing citation styles) down the road.
  • I do agree that is not orthodox but it does allow me save a lot of time. What is the point in coding a CSL file just for a reference? But coming back to the issue... what is happening?
  • I don't know. It's a rarely used feature that's not maintained very much. I can't promise you it'll be fixed soon.
You can always edit the bibliography right in Word when you're done if you really need to.
