Help uploading and organizing

I am a research intern for a project. My manager already has roughly 500-600 files that need to be uploaded to Zotero and renamed and organized, however, when I go to the group library, I cannot click on the PDF's link, and I cannot figure out how to make this possible, or to rename the article and put n the proper references for each one? Is there any easy way to get this done? I just want to be able to name, and site, abstracts, authors, etc, and delete files and add more into the same library. I will organize later into subcatagories, unless that is easy to do now too? Any help, would be great
  • If your manager uses Zotero, I'd ask him for 5min introduction -- that's what I do for my graduate assistants and it's really helpful to be shown the basic ropes.

You want to start by trying to use this:
    https://www.zotero.org/support/retrieve_pdf_metadata
use it in small batches, you'll hit google query limits after a while (you'll see that as an error message, no need to understand exactly what it means right now).

For the files for which this doesn't work, use right-click --> Create parent item. That'll attach them to an item for which you can select an item type, add title, author, etc.
  • Thanks Adam, Unfortuantly, this program is new to all of us. I appreciate the link you sent me and it is helpful, however, I cannot do anything with our grup library, which is where all the PDFs are. I also have them in dropbox. Is there a way to import these or edit our group library, or do they have to be in "my library"? If hey are in my library, I would need to move the referenced remaned articles into the group library eventually, so can I do this from the group library in the first place? Also, do you know if there is any way t talk to any tech support person?
  • @erinmae77: are you full member of group library?
  • You should be able to just drag files frorm the file system to the group. If not, see LiboroA's question ("full member" here either means administrator or that the group gives file adding rights to all members).

You can absolutely do all of this in a group, yes.
  • Im not sure if I am a full memeber.. It says I am an administrator

Adam, What is the file system? The group library? Where all th PDFS are?
  • If you're an adminstrator, you're good in that respect.
I think best to see your other thread -- it sounds like you're just not synced successfully. You'll want to be doing all of this on your computer, not on zotero.org.
