recover library

my old computer recently crashed. Lost Zotero library on computer. hoping to recover library from sync.
I synced regularly.
Before I do anything, I want to know best way to proceed.
Thanks,
John
  • Did you check that your library is available here on the website (click on My Library at the top)?

If so, all you need to do is to install Zotero on your new computer and sync -- that's what it's for. There's nothing special you need to do (people are always concerned they might overwrite their online data or something. That's impossible with regular syncing, so no worries.)
  • ok, well, "my library" is empty. Any further suggestions?
My stuff should be "out there" somewhere on the Zotero server
  • Not under you current username, sorry. If it's on the server under that name, it would show on the website. It's possible that sync didn't go through (the error message isn't super prominent, but would display a red exclamation mark until the problem is solved).
Or you synced with a different username -- try maybe an alternate e-mail address if you can't remember the username. That's all there is though, sorry.
  • ok. Thanks for your help
  • (and just in case -- a regular, full back up of your harddisk would almost certainly contain the Zotero database, too, so that would also allow you to restore).
