View Online not doing anything

Hello, I have a library of 1000 citations and a large portion of them do not lead me to viewing the reference. So I right-click and some of them don't have the "view online" function available (simply not in the drop down menu). However, when I try to do this in Mendeley it works just fine. I am not sure what is going on with my Zotero but I would prefer to use Zotero so I would prefer to fix this. I can import 50 citations at once from the same database and most work but some will not...

Thanks.
  • View online just follows the link (and I think the DOI, too, though not sure). Do you have an example of where it doesn't work?
  • Ok, I see that if you don't have a URL or DOI it will not "view online". However, I exported all of my library into Mendeley and some of the references from Zotero that have no URL or DOI in Zotero Mendeley is able to open them up and view online. I'm not sure why since I exported everything from Zotero.
an example of a paper could be "Biological monitoring of occupational exposure to nickel." (1984) Atio.A.
  • Mendeley might have another mechanism -- they could route it through google scholar, through an openURL resolver, or through their own catalog.

Note that Zotero does have the first two options if you click on the (easily overlooked) locate menu. That's the green straight arrow to the right of the search field.
  • This was very useful. I used the small green arrow that you suggested and was able to find a random missing one that i had. Still, the specific one I sent you I was unable to find using Zotero but that's just one old article. I will look into configuring the Zotero Lookup Engines. Thanks for your help.
  • Your old referenced article might have no url and you might need to copy it from a printed journal. Just ask a librarian at your institution for help. Here are the the details from PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6398290
