Zotero Mozilla import difficulties

Hi,

i have begun using the Mozilla version of Zotero as my university could not support the Standalone version. I have just attempted to save two (separate) bibliographic entries into my library and it has failed to do so? have i missed a step?
  • save entries from where? How exactly? Happy to help, but we'd need a bit more detail.
  • sorry - from web pages - i'll send you a link: http://library.ecu.edu.au/search~S7?/Xsociology+of+emotion&searchscope=7&SORT=DZ/Xsociology+of+emotion&searchscope=7&SORT=DZ&extended=0&SUBKEY=sociology+of+emotion/1%2C18%2C18%2CB/frameset&FF=Xsociology+of+emotion&searchscope=7&SORT=DZ&4%2C4%2C - at home with standalone i can utlise chrome or Mozilla and automatically download from our library catalogue - it says it's saving to my library but nothing is appearing?
  • OK, that should work. You're clicking on the Z next to the save to Zotero icon to see your Zotero library, correct? And there's no item there?

In the "saving to My Library" message, does the title of the item in question appear?
  • ok - i have it now - my bad - they are appearing in a library at the bottom of the page? different to what i am used to - they are not appearing in my library here: https://www.zotero.org/carmj/items - i think it's just me getting used to mozilla application.
one other question - will i be able to sync my standalone at home with this library?
    thanks
    carmen
  • Yes, once you sync: https://www.zotero.org/support/sync
the items also appear online under https://www.zotero.org/carmj/items
and then sync down to your Standalone app (and vice versa)
  • i need to ask one question: if i could not sync with standalone - will i be able to sync with mozilla version? the first issue was firewall related i believe?
  • that depends on the Firewall. They both use the same ports and sync with the same addresses, but the connection requests do come from Firefox when you use the add-on, so it _could_ work.
  • Hi adam,

IT has asked me to ask you which ports zotero uses? i think we have been here before, but i need them in order to place a break firewall request.BTW i don't seem to be able to open zotero at all now in Mozilla and everytime i try and sync the connection times out - the IT guys manually entered our proxies and ports into Mozilla and Chrome - just in case that makes a difference.

    thanks
    carmen
  • Zotero just uses http and https (that's 80 and 443, but they know that).

It should pick up the proxy from the Firefox settings for the Firefox version, for Standalone it looks for the systemwide proxy settings.
