Access date, German format (APA style)

In an APA-styled bibliography, access dates of online sources are always in English format. This doesn't go well with German users.

Is there a workaround (v. 1.0.9)? Thank you.

    For now creating a customized style is the only way to go.

    http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/creating_citation_styles
  • Thank you for you quick reply. I took a look at the style, and tweaking it was actually much easier than I thought!

    Here's my workaround:

    1. Download apa.csl from http://www.zotero.org/styles and save to disk
    2. Open in text editor
    3. Change parameters for variable "accessed" (lines 86-90) to
    <date variable="accessed" suffix=" ">
    <date-part name="day" prefix="am " suffix=". "/>
    <date-part name="month" suffix=" "/>
    <date-part name="year"/>
    </date>

    4. Change ID info (lines 5-7) to
    <title>American Psychological Association (de)</title>
    <id>http://www.zotero.org/styles/apa-de</id>
    <link href="http://www.zotero.org/styles/apa-de"/>

    to make custom style identifiable and avoid automatic overwriting (quick and dirty, and I'm guessing here ...)
    5. Save as apa-de.csl and open in Firefox to import to Zotero.
    6. Set as default style in Zotero (and word processor extension) and you're done.

    Note: occasionally, you should compare your custom style to the original so you don't get disconnected from its improvements.
  • Hi, is there anyone who knows how this works nowadays? I didnt't manage to modify the APA 6th this way neither in text editor, nor in the integrated editor.

    Anyone knows more?
  • What exactly is the question? APA should localize dates
  • @adamsmith I'm referring to modifying the APA style as described above by @hussong. It's working with the 6th edition for the date formats, but only for the accessed ones. So if I cite an article not only with (2018), but with 01.02.2018, it makes it (2018, Februar 2).

    So in the end it creates a mixture between german and english.

  • So if by localize you mean it adapts to the language, no it does not in my particular case as described above @adamsmith
